Stoxy has always had a symbiotic relationship with wood. Designs are often inspired from the material at hand and not the other way around. When selecting the timber he uses, he visualises how that will fit into the piece he wants to make, thus becoming part of the design and not a product of the design. This lends itself to work that evolves naturally into the finished piece. Often there are few if any drawings, as this can interrupt the visualisation process and the organic design of the finished item.
It is Stoxy’s imagination and skills to transfer that into crafted pieces that make Stoxy’s work unique.
Stoxy has always had an affinity for wood, right from childhood, when he spent time making things with his grandad.
His craftsmanship is unique and bold. Designs, conjured from his mind, often evolve during the making - becoming part of the creative process.
The resulting pieces carry part of the maker inside them, an extension of himself, fashioned from wood.
Nature, literature and mythology are key influences on his work. Stoxy’s skill as a photographer also translates into some of his work, with photographs printed directly onto wood and combined into the piece.
